I know you're sitting there thinking.... did she miss a week? And the answer is no. But it has been technically longer than 7 days since I blogged last. Last weekend, my beautiful, amazing, awesome-sauce hair and make up artist, Samantha, got married. And I was in her wedding! So I blogged twice (Deadwood because I was laaaate) and early last week so that I didn't miss a blog...because I'm dead set on that vacation for blogging 52 times this year.
So what's been going on at KSP for the past 10 ish days? 6 amazing senior girls have been in for their KSP senior experience. And it's been a whirlwind! I always give a little excerpt of the sessions on facebook, but I can elaborate on more fun stories and experiences here on the blog.
Maddie | Sanborn Central
This gorgeous lady was so fun and so easy to work with. We started out her session in the studio to do her t-shirts, sports and jerseys. A valued teammate on Maddie's basketball team passed away and we did a few images to honor her. After that, we went outside in quite possibly one of the most gorgeous evenings we've had in quite a while! We spent the evening dancing in the grass in that gorgeous sorbet-colored skirt and hanging out in my favorite field of flowers. Dan and I both agreed that Maddie reminds us of a mixture of Ariel and Merida from Disney. And we basically love that.
Miah | Bridgewater-Emery
Both Miah and her mama told me that she has been researching her senior pictures and who would be taking them for years. And she knew she wanted us to do them. That is by far the coolest thing to me. It may seem like some little thing, but to know that someone has been looking at your work for YEARS and that they were so excited for their own experience makes me feel so honored and so humbled! And Miah is THE BEST. She was up for absolutely every idea I threw at her, including that black and white image up there. Which is my FAVE. I walked past those downed branches and I just could see the image in my mind. I'm so happy we tried that! We tried a few new locations and a few old favorites and her session was just a blasty blast. I can't wait to show Miah the rest of her beautiful images!
Myah | Sanborn Central
Can we talk about how much of a sweetheart this girl is? Let's talk about it. Dan is from Woonsocket, who co-ops with Sanborn Central for sports. So I've seen Myah play basketball -- not only is she genuine and awesome on the court, she is just as selfless and genuine off. She was up for every single thing we threw at her, including wading through a field of thistles, just because it had the prettiest light. And then we got to hang out with her on her turf (which was today, 7-3-16). Her family has the coolest...like THE COOLEST old barn that they have a basketball court up in the loft. Myah practices there and it was so fun to be able to showcase one of her favorite things in one of her favorite places. I'll be showcasing those images on facebook in the next day or two! Be on the lookout!
Bailey | Rock County
Besides when seniors tell you that they have been looking to come to you for years, you know what else makes me feel like a totally cool, cool person? When seniors travel long distances to come to you for their senior images. I worked with a friend of Bailey's last year and was tickled pink to have another senior from Rock County (about 2 hours away from Wagner) come to me for pictures. If I accurately describe Bailey's session as it happened, I'm pretty sure that ever photographer in the world would be jealous. This girl is SO DANG EASY to photograph. To the point where she was basically posing herself. She would naturally fall into such relaxed and beautiful poses that it was just me photographing someone who is just super comfortable in front of the camera. We absolutely flew through all of her outfits and each one was more adorable than the next. She was such a pleasure to work with and she will have so, so many proofs!
Whitney | Wessington Springs
Just continuing along with one of the most relaxed and easy sessions to date -- let's talk about Miss Whitney. A. Her fashion sense is unmatched. I loved how easily she could pull off so many different looks! It didn't matter if it was an urban or a country setting, this girl rocked absolutely every single setting. B. She was totally up for every single thing. She told me she trusted my vision and she went with it. Sit in some weeds? No problem. Crawl through waist high grass, why not? And let's talk about the light. Some of the most gorgeous light that we have had in the evenings the past few weeks. Can you tell from the images that it was approximately the temperature of the sun on her evening? No? Oh yes. It was HOT. And when I say hot, I don't mean...oh, it's the humidity. It was the humidity, plus the fact that it was 95 degrees plus the fact that there was NO WIND. South Dakota summers and no wind? No thanks. But if every session like that turns out like Whitney's did, I won't complain!
Emma | Platte-Geddes | KSP Senior Model
So we started Emma's premium session in her school gym. Which may be haunted and was for sure hot. But that didn't stop us from doing all kinds of fun things in there. Including stacking vertical boxes like Jenga pieces to achieve the volleyball net picture. Which, in hindsight, I had enough people in the gym with me to outstretch a volleyball net to be tight but that just wouldn't have been nearly as much fun. From there, we ventured down to downtown Platte. Emma's striped dress matched the casual-cool downtown vibe that Platte has to offer and I maaaaay have overshot that dress just a little. Whoops! After that we went adventuring down to the gorgeous Platte golf course. It has the really beautiful ivy wall that sits behind one of the holes. It was totally worth the fact that we could have been struck by a rogue golf ball at any moment. And lastly that gorgeous lace dress we chased the sun with. Samantha pinned up Emma's hair into a beautiful loose bun and retouched up her makeup with a slightly darker lip. It paired beautifully with the sunset and all the wheat and flowers we used it with. I can't wait for her second session in October!
Until next week,
